Zaheer Iqbal talks about playing an obsessive lover in Tu Hai Meri Kiran: “I wanted to explore a side of me that audiences haven’t seen before”

Zaheer Iqbal has spoken about taking on a different kind of romantic role in Tu Hai Meri Kiran, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha. The actor plays an obsessive lover in the film, a character that required him to explore a different emotional range from the romantic portrayals audiences may associate with him.

Reflecting on his decision to take up the role, Zaheer said he was keen to experiment with a character that would allow him to move beyond familiar territory. He described the part as an opportunity to approach a more layered personality and understand the motivations behind his actions.

“As actors, we always want to surprise our audiences and give them something they haven’t experienced from us before. With Tu Hai Meri Kiran, I genuinely wanted to explore a side of me that audiences haven’t seen before. Playing an obsessive lover was an exciting challenge because the character comes with several emotional layers. It wasn’t just about portraying intensity; it was about understanding the character’s mindset, his emotions and what drives his actions. I wanted to approach the role with conviction and make sure that even the most complicated emotions felt authentic on screen. The love and appreciation the character has received since the film’s release is extremely encouraging. It feels wonderful when audiences connect with something you’ve put so much effort into, especially when it’s a character that takes you away from your usual space as an actor.”

The actor’s comments highlight the approach he took towards portraying the character, particularly the need to look beyond the outward intensity of an obsessive relationship. According to Zaheer, understanding the character’s emotional motivations was central to making the portrayal convincing.

Tu Hai Meri Kiran gives Zaheer an opportunity to explore a less conventional romantic dynamic on screen. His character’s obsessive nature places the role in a different space from a straightforward romantic lead, while also allowing him to experiment with a more complicated emotional journey.

The film also features popular actor Ankit Gupta. Zaheer’s experience with the project, as he describes it, reflects his interest in taking up parts that challenge his established screen image. The response he says the character has received since the film’s release has been encouraging for him, particularly because the role required him to move beyond his usual acting space.
