Revathy wins Best Actor (International Short) for Sayani Gupta’s directorial Aasmani at IFFSA

Sayani Gupta's directorial debut Aasmani has added another honour to its list, with veteran actress Revathy winning Best Actor (International Short) for her performance in the film at the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) in Toronto. Revathy plays Asha, a grandmother whose bond with her granddaughter and their vintage powder blue Fiat sits at the emotional centre of the film. This win is doubly special for team Aasmani as it lands at the same festival where Sayani Gupta was Guest of Honour and received the South Asian Screen Excellence Award.

For Sayani, who wrote and directed the film, the recognition for her lead actress is a quiet validation of the choices she made behind the camera. Casting a performer of Revathy's stature in her very first outing as a director was a bold call, and the Toronto win suggests it paid off in a performance that international audiences and juries have responded to. It also rounds out a picture of a film being celebrated across categories, from Best Director and Best Child Actor to Best Short Film and now a Best Actor honour in Toronto.
