EXCLUSIVE: “Whatever Sikandar earned at the box office is only because of Salman Khan,” points out Taran Adarsh

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama’s Rohit Khilnani, veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh got talking about the failure of the Salman Khan starrer Sikandar. During the conversation, Adarsh was asked whether Salman is surrounded by a lot of ‘yes men’ just like a lot of starts of the past.

Adarsh said, “There was a superstar in the 1970s. I won’t name him. There were a lot of ‘yes men’ around him. He was a very big star. But the reason for his downfall was that he used to listen to his ‘yes men’. As far as Salman is concerned, I don’t know whether he listens to the ‘yes men’.”

Adarsh applauded Salman’s recent act of having a meeting with his fans after the failure of Sikandar. “You raised a very good point that he met his fans,” he told Rohit. “This is good. We should keep our eyes and ears open. His name is also associated with the film. When he would have noticed that the film didn’t do well even on Eid, he would have thought what and where were the mistakes and what could have been better.”

Adarsh also recalled an old interview he had taken of Salman where he told the star that his fans love him so much that they consider him as their own. “Salman gave a very beautiful answer to this,” he said. “He said his fans are like his family. They are not just his fans. I really liked this. Even after reaching this stature, he thinks about his fans. Salman is a very nice man. He has humanity. He does a lot for the society.”

Taran Adarsh pointed out that Salman still has a tremendous star power, which is evident from whatever number Sikandar earned at the box office. “You remember his entry scene in Pathaan? The way he enters the scene, there were whistles and claps. The number that Sikandar has earned at the box office is only because of one person – Salman Khan. If there were other actors, maybe such a weak film couldn’t have done this much business,” said the trade analyst.
