Sooraj Barjatya reveals his nightclub experience: “A SHOCKED Farah Khan asked me, ‘What are you doing here?’; a party goer said, ‘Aap yahan se jaaiye. Yeh jagah hum PAAPI logon ke liye hai’”

Sooraj Barjatya had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, during which he spoke about his films, his journey and also that of his production house, Rajshri Productions, started by his grandfather, Tarachand Barjatya. Sooraj’s films are known to be rooted. But one film that stands out in his directorial filmography is Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003), starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The master filmmaker spoke about it and shared the hilarious incident of how he prepped for the film.

Sooraj Barjatya said, “I went with my wife to a nightclub. It was called Fire-N-Ice and it was newly opened. It was the time when I was conceiving Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. I wanted to have a look. Hence, I went there.”

As expected, the partygoers were shocked to see a person like him in a nightclub. Sooraj Barjatya revealed, “There, I met Farah Khan. She was shocked and asked me, ‘What are you doing here?’. She called up Karan Johar and told him, ‘Look who’s here, who’s here’!”

He raised laughs as he continued, “Then, I went to a corner. A man was dancing. He looked at me and asked, ‘Aap yahaan kya kar rahe hai?’. I told him, ‘I am just observing. You carry on’. He replied, ‘Aap yahan se jaaiye. Yeh jagah hum paapi logon ke liye hai’!”

Sooraj Barjatya laughed as he then said, “I then left. I felt that I was not meant to be there.”

M F Husain has been a huge fan of Sooraj Barjatya and he despised Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. Sooraj Barjatya revealed, “When the film was released, M F Hussain saw it on the first day at Liberty Cinema. He called and said, ‘Yeh tune kya banaya hai? Main paint brush fek ke aaya hoon screen pe’!”
