Pooja Hegde reveals how Karthik Subbaraj cast her in Retro after Radhe Shyam: “He really liked those scenes and thought he could use me for this”

Pooja Hegde, who recently appeared alongside Shahid Kapoor in Deva, shared insights about her upcoming film Retro. She revealed that director Karthik Subbaraj cast her after being impressed by her performance in Radhe Shyam.

In an interview with Galatta India, Pooja Hegde shared, “I got cast in Retro because Karthik Subbaraj really liked a scene of mine in Radhe Shyam. There are these two emotional scenes which he really liked. I asked him, ‘How did you think I could do this?’ He really liked those scenes and thought he could use me for this.”

Discussing how she lands roles, Pooja Hegde said, “It just takes a filmmaker to put away everything else and see you for your performance in order to give you another film. That’s literally how I made my career.”

Since the release of the Retro teaser, fans have been captivated by Pooja Hegde's look and performance, heightening excitement for the film. Retro also marks the first collaboration between actor Suriya and director Karthik Subbaraj, raising expectations among fans.

The makers unveiled the release date poster and title teaser on Christmas, giving fans a sneak peek into the emotional yet action-packed storyline.

One particular sequence, featuring tender moments between Suriya and Pooja Hegde's characters in the ghats of Varanasi, has intensified the anticipation. Pooja, dressed in a light pink saree, is seen tying a sacred band around Suriya's wrist as his character vows to leave behind a life of violence and embrace love.

Retro features an ensemble cast, with Suriya leading alongside Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, and Prakash Raj.

Additionally, Shriya Saran will make a special cameo appearance. With its star-studded cast and promising storyline, Retro is set to be one of the most anticipated films of 2025.
