Anil Kapoor mourns Gene Hackman’s death, recalls his iconic performances: “A true legend whose legacy will live on”

Actor Anil Kapoor paid tribute to Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, who passed away at 95. Sharing a series of pictures on his X account, Kapoor wrote that he is struggling to process the fact that “the world no longer” has Gene in it.

Anil Kapoor wrote in his X account, “Cannot believe the world no longer has Gene Hackman in it... His effortless performances in films like The French Connection, Unforgiven and The Firm are just a few times the world witnessed his genius. A true legend whose legacy will live on. Rest in peace.”

Authorities have confirmed that the Oscar-winning actor, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were all found dead at their New Mexico home.

The office of Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed their deaths to Variety. Authorities found no immediate indication of foul play, though the Sheriff’s office has not yet provided a cause of death.

“We’re in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant,” Sheriff Adan Mendoza told the Santa Fe New Mexican. The statement was made before authorities had officially identified the couple, according to the publication. He added, “I want to assure the community and neighbourhood that there's no immediate danger to anyone.”

Gene Hackman, one of the industry’s most acclaimed actors, was a five-time Oscar nominee who starred in numerous films. He won two Academy Awards for The French Connection and Unforgiven, along with two BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes.

Gene Hackman consistently delivered surprise hits, starring in films like The French Connection II, The Firm, and The Poseidon Adventure.

His performances have only gained recognition over time. His portrayal of Harry Caul in Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation remains as compelling today as it was upon the film's 1974 release. The same applies to his role as a stoic promoter in Michael Ritchie's ski drama Downhill Racer.
