Ananya Panday was ‘uncomfortable’ about doing Vijay Deverakonda starrer Liger, reveals father Chunky Panday

Chunky Panday, who has been a part of the industry for decades, has always expressed his pride over his daughter’s achievements. While earlier he also served as her guide for choosing films, he asserted that he has stopped doing the same, due to recent experiences. Recalling how he had insisted on Ananya Panday taking up Liger, he mentioned that the actress was not all convinced and was quite uncomfortable doing it because she believed that she was too young for the role.

In a recent interaction, Chunky Panday candidly opened up about the advice he gave her when she came to him with the opportunity of Dharma Productions’ Liger. “When she asked me if she should do this film… she was thinking that she was too young for it. She said, ‘Papa, I am too young to do this.’ I said you do this; it’s a commercial, a big film but maybe she was right. She was too young to do it,” Chunky told Mashable India. For the unversed, prior to the action-entertainer, Ananya featured in some unconventional films like Khaali Peeli and Gehraiyaan along with romantic comedy Pati Patnii Aur Woh. She had made her debut in films with the teenage college drama Student Of The Year 2 which marked her foray into Bollywood. However, Liger marked her entry into the action genre.

Further talking about his decision to stay away from giving her advice, Chunky revealed that he wasn’t convinced with her opinion of doing Call Me Bae, which went on to become one of her career-defining roles. “From that day on, I never put any pressure on her. Maybe I was wrong. I am old school. I don’t know anything else. If she had asked me, ‘Papa, should I do Bae?’ I would have said no,” Chunky shared.

On the work front, Ananya Panday had a successful 2024 with her web-series debut Call Me Bae and Netflix film CTRL garnering love and appreciation. Now, speaking of her future commitments, the actress will next be seen in C Sankaran Nair biopic titled Kesari Chapter 2 with Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan. She also has the romantic drama Chand Mera Dil co-starring Lakshya and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment in the pipeline.
