EXCLUSIVE: Rohit Shetty reflects on Singham Again’s success and Diwali release strategy; says, “The film is based on Diwali”

Diwali 2024 saw two major box office releases, Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and while many anticipated a clash between the two star-studded films, both have surprisingly enjoyed a successful run and captured the hearts of audiences. Now, director Rohit Shetty and actor Ajay Devgn have addressed the clash, revealing that they had tried to avoid it. However, the Ramayan theme in the cop drama is primary. Because the film is based on Diwali, that prevented them from postponing the release.

In an exclusive interaction session at Bollywood Hungama Hangout, Singham Again director Rohit Shetty expressed his happiness over the positive reception of the film, acknowledging the audience’s warm response.

He shared that despite the initial concerns about the Diwali clash, the success and appreciation for the film have been overwhelming. Rohit also mentioned that the Diwali theme was a key factor in their decision to release it.

Rohit said, “The narrative of the film, it's Diwali. So, changing that was a bit difficult for us. Otherwise, it's not that this was the only date that we wanted to come. But the script had a demand, because the film narrative is, it starts from it's 9 days of Ram Leela and then it ends on Diwali. So, our whole peg to come on Diwali is because the film is based on Diwali.”

He also highlighted that within a week of their releases, both films collectively earned over Rs 300 crores, a rare achievement that reflects the strong audience support for both Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
