Vidya Balan praises Tabu’s effortless acting in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2; says, “She’s always amazing”
The excitement for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is intense, especially with Vidya Balan reprising her role as Manjulika after 17 years. The film features a dance-off between Vidya and Madhuri Dixit Nene, who portrays the new Manjulika, intriguing many fans.
At the ‘Ami Je Tomar 3.0’ song launch in Mumbai last week, producer Bhushan Kumar revealed that they had initially approached Vidya to play Manjulika in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, but she declined. Consequently, Tabu was brought in to fill the role.
In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Vidya expressed her admiration for Tabu, despite not being part of the sequel. She praised Tabu, stating, “I love Tabu. I don’t think I spoke to her after the film. I haven’t met her in years. But I’ve always said that Tabu is one of those actors who makes everything look like she’s just sipping water. She’s so effortless. I remember that in the early years when I had watched her do Maachis, Astitva and her comedy films, I thought that she was like water. She flows into anything. Whatever she does, she’s always amazing!”
Vidya revealed that she initially turned down Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 because she was concerned that the impact of her character could be compromised and wanted it to remain “untouched”. However, something changed her mind and prompted her to join Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. What convinced her to be part of the sequel? She said, “I saw Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and thought that it was a good, fun film! When they came back to me with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, I thought it was a fantastic script and I had a great role in it. It was also the same team making it. That’s when I felt I was ready for it.”
Vidya admitted that as she reviewed the script for the threequel, she felt nervous about how her character would be portrayed and its effect on the franchise. “I think it was just a matter of timing. And even while I was reading the script, I couldn’t imagine touching Bhool Bhulaiyaa because it was so sacrosanct to me. Which film continues to give you after so many years but Bhool Bhulaiyaa! I think I was just trying to keep it safe,” adds the Do Aur Do Pyaar actor.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, set to release during Diwali, is anticipated to achieve impressive box office numbers. While Vidya is excited about it, she admitted that she doesn't keep track of box office statistics and is relying on Kartik Aaryan for that. “Kartik understands it far more than I do. I don’t think I understand it at all. I’ve never been interested in the business side of films. I want my films to do very well but if you ask me how many screens it will be releasing in, I’ll perhaps ask you to go to Kartik and ask him. All I want to know is that my films are really loved,” she stated.
