“Sajid Nadiadwala encouraged me to not quit politics and become a film producer,” reveals Raj Thackeray at Yek Number trailer launch
Rajesh Mapuskar’s Marathi movie Yek Number’s trailer launch was a star-studded affair. Apart from the debutant pair of Dhairya Gholap and Sayli Patil, it saw the attendance of industry heavyweights like Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Ashutosh Gowariker, Avinash Gowariker, Sajid Nadiadwala, Warda Nadiadwala, Abhijat Joshi and Sajid Khan. Raj Thackeray, chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has produced the film under the banner Sahyadri Films, which is handled by actress Tejwawini Pandit.
During the event, Raj Thackeray shared an unknown trivia of a time when he had decided to quit politics and how Sajid Nadiadwala’s advice helped him. “In the year 2000, when I was in a different party (Shiv Sena), I was fed up with all the political happenings in it and I decided to put a reverse gear. I felt I shouldn’t continue with politics. I thought I will slowly leave politics. I used to regularly meet Sajid Nadiadwala. I met him and decided to start a film production company,” he said.
Thackeray continued, “Then one day, the reason I re-entered politics was because of Sajid Nadiadwala. He told me one thing, ‘Raj bhai, I am a producer, so I know how a producer has to work and what all he needs to do. I won’t be able to see Raj Thackeray do all that as a producer. You be where you are. Filmein toh banti rahegi.’ Then I again got involved in politics and things started happening.”
Thackeray shared how after all these years, he finally entered film production and teamed up with Nadiadwala Grandson for the movie. “Now, today after all these years, I started a production company,” he said. “And while doing that, I met Tejaswini Pandit and Sajid Nadiadwala was always there. Some very good films are made in Marathi. But the way how films from other regional industries are coming up and making it big, it is important to make Marathi films of that level too. That’s how this film called Yek Number came about.”
Yek Number is all set to release in theatres on October 12.
