Nawazuddin Siddiqui lands in Kathmandu for Shambhala premiere, celebrates Nepali Film's historic Berlin selection

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a Bollywood actor, arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon to attend the premiere of Shambhala, a Nepali film selected for the Berlin Film Festival. When Siddiqui arrived at the airport, he was greeted by a crowd of ecstatic supporters. Siddiqui told ANI, “I am here for the celebration of our movie called Shambhala. I am here for maybe two or three days.”

The film Shambhala directed by Min Bahadur Bham, is set to premiere this Sunday. It has already made history as the first Nepali film selected for the Berlin Film Festival. Lead actress Thinley Lhamo has received significant recognition, winning the Boccalino d'Oro Prize at the Locarno Film Festival. The movie is slated for a public release in Nepal on September 13, 2024.

In addition to the premiere, actor Siddiqui plans to tour Kathmandu. He told ANI, “Yes, of course, Nepal is a beautiful country. Since I am here in Kathmandu, I will see all the sights.” Siddiqui had previously shown interest in watching the film during his encounter with Bham at the film festival and expressed enthusiasm about potentially collaborating with the director in the future.

Bham was at the airport to greet Siddiqui and his team upon their arrival from Mumbai. As Siddiqui was escorted from the terminal, he was swarmed by fans seeking photos and autographs. One fan, Deepika Thapa, who gifted Siddiqui a red rose, shared her excitement: “It was such a blessing. My friends and I had been waiting since morning. Meeting him was a 'wow' feeling. It was indeed a grand welcome.”

At 50, Siddiqui has made a mark in Bollywood with significant roles in films like Black Friday, New York, Peepli Live, Kahani, and The Gangs of Wasseypur. He is notably the only actor with eight films officially selected and screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Siddiqui also stars in two Emmy-nominated series, "Sacred Games" (2019) and "McMafia," directed by James Watkins.

Shambhala follows an expectant mother from the highlands who embarks on a journey with her husband's younger brother to locate her missing spouse. The film was shot at elevations between 4,200 and 6,000 meters in Dolpa, Karnali.
