Vicky Kaushal on college memories and watching Akshay Kumar’s Garam Masala: “It is one of the best comedy films ever”

During an interview with Pinkvilla, actor Vicky Kaushal shared his admiration for the 2005 comedy film Garam Masala. Reminiscing about his college days, Vicky revealed that he watched the film with his friends and enjoyed it immensely. "I love this film...It is Akshay sir at his best," Vicky remarked, highlighting the lasting impression the movie made on him.

College memories and comic moments

Vicky recalled watching Garam Masala during his engineering college days. “Hum saare group mein gaye the itna has rahe the. It is one of the best comedy films ever. Mujhe bahot pasand hai Garam Masala (I went to watch the film with my college friends’ group. We all were laughing...I love the film very much),” he shared. He praised the performances of Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and John Abraham, calling them "superb" in the movie.

The magic of Garam Masala

Directed by Priyadarshan, Garam Masala starred Akshay Kumar as Makrand Deendayal Chatpatiya, aka Mac, a fashion photographer entangled in comedic situations with three air hostesses, played by Neetu Chandra, Daisy Bopanna, and Nargis Bagheri. John Abraham portrayed his colleague, Shyam Salgaonkar, aka Sam, and Paresh Rawal played the housekeeper Mambo Rana. The film, based on Priyadarshan's Malayalam film Boeing Boeing, is remembered for its humorous plot and standout performances.

Akshay Kumar’s comic genius

Vicky Kaushal praised Akshay Kumar’s comedic timing in Garam Masala, noting how the actor excelled in comic roles during the 2000s with films like Hera Pheri, Awara Paagal Deewana, and Bhagam Bhag. Co-star Ammy Virk, who is working with Akshay in Khel Khel Mein, also commended Akshay, mentioning that he is funnier in real life than he was in the film.

Vicky Kaushal is gearing up for his upcoming film Bad Newz, a comedy that also stars Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. Directed by Anand Tiwari and produced by Karan Johar, the film explores heteropaternal superfecundation with a mix of romance and comedy. Set to release on July 19, Bad Newz promises to be an entertaining watch.
