Salman Khan wasn't “Keen” on working with Govinda in Partner, reveals David Dhawan

One of the most celebrated actor-director partnerships in Bollywood during the 90s was that of Govinda and David Dhawan. This iconic duo collaborated on 17 films, delivering numerous hits such as Raja Babu, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Aankhen, and Saajan Chale Sasural. Their successful comedies have left a lasting impact on Indian cinema.

David Dhawan Speaks About His Bond With Govinda  David Dhawan recently appeared on Arbaaz Khan's talk show, The Invincibles Series, where he reminisced about his long-standing working relationship with Govinda. David shared, "Govind used to say, 'David ek kaam karta hu, I will give the entire scene in one shot.' Then we used to cut the scenes; that's how we worked. I was the only one who could handle him."

David Dhawan expressed his deep respect for Govinda, highlighting the unique dynamic they shared on set. When questioned about Govinda's punctuality, David humorously responded, "Kaam khatam hota tha mera," implying that despite any delays, the work always got completed efficiently. Casting Govinda in Partner Discussing the casting of the 2007 hit film Partner, David Dhawan revealed how he pitched the idea to producer Sohail Khan. "Can we take Govinda and Salman bhai?" he suggested. While Sohail Khan was supportive of the idea, Salman Khan himself wasn't initially enthusiastic. David recalled saying, "Come yaar, let’s do it, it will be a big thing,” to Salman Khan.

During the film's shoot in Bangkok, Salman shared a candid moment with David, stating, "David yaar, isse ladna… fayda nahi hai." 

Partner became a significant film in the comedy genre, showcasing the chemistry between Govinda and Salman Khan. The story revolves around Prem (played by Salman Khan), a love guru who helps his client, Bhaskar (played by Govinda), in wooing his boss. The film also stars Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta in lead roles.
