Twinkle admitted that as soon as she took her seat for the concert, she instinctively reached for her phone. "Already bored, I pulled out my phone and automatically started obeying the God of minor distractions," she wrote. However, a timer she had set to limit her screen time interrupted her scrolling, prompting her to put her phone away. This moment of forced disengagement from technology allowed Twinkle to immerse herself in the surroundings and the event.

Embracing the concert's atmosphere

Freed from her phone, Twinkle began to appreciate the church's intricate details and the concert's ambiance. She described noticing the high ceiling, the central aisle, and the painting of The Last Supper behind the altar. The sunlight flickering through stained-glass windows added to the setting's charm. Observing the children play their violins, she remarked on the music's "euphonious, discordant, imperfectly marvellous" quality, which filled her with a sense of unexpected wonder.

The importance of presence

Twinkle used this experience to underline the significance of paying attention to real-life moments, even in mundane activities like a train ride. She emphasized that life's most finite resource is time, and we should strive to be present and mindful in our daily lives. "We must find ways to build fortresses where we allow information to flow in and pull up our drawbridge after we fulfil our requirements," she advised.

Twinkle, married to actor Akshay Kumar since 2001, has made significant strides in her writing career. She pursued a Masters in Fiction Writing at the Goldsmiths, University of London in 2022. Her debut non-fiction book, ‘Mrs Funnybones,’ was released in 2015, followed by other works such as ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad,’ ‘Pyjamas Are Forgiving,’ and ‘Welcome to Paradise’.
