Hansal Mehta says son Jai Mehta has "grown up on a staple of Hollywood thrillers"; speaks of latter's directorial debut show Lootere

Acclaimed director Hansal Mehta lends his expertise as showrunner to his son Jai Mehta's directorial debut, the high-stakes thriller series Lootere, now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. While Hansal Mehta is known for films and web shows based on real incidents, he reveals a long-held desire to create a gripping thriller. Lootere provided the perfect opportunity for his son Jai to take the reins and bring that vision to life.

Talking about the same, Hansal Mehta, the showrunner of Disney+Hotstar's Lootere said, "When I read the script and saw the scope of it, I told Shaailesh, who has produced the show and has been a part of the developing team, I told him that this is something right up Jai's alley. Jai likes things larger than life; he's grown up on a staple of Hollywood thrillers."

He further added, "My DVDs were usually scratched by Jai; he has always wanted something like this. I felt that this was the correct platform, and I was there to support that. In my initial days, all I wanted to do was make thrillers, and in that sense, Jai has fulfilled my ambition partly. Of course, I still want to make a thriller myself, but yes, he has partly fulfilled that ambition of mine."

Lootere features a captivating plot centered around a ship captain, played by Rajat Kapoor, caught in the crosshairs of a dangerous situation. With valuable cargo on board and the ever-present threat of Somali pirates, the captain must navigate a treacherous path while confronting a criminal past. The supporting cast includes Vivek Gomber, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Aamir Ali. New episodes of Lootere premiere every Wednesday on Disney+ Hotstar.
