Vijay Varma says "directors of current generation" are "only thinking about murder"; jokes about his crime film streak
Vijay Varma is a rising star in Indian cinema, renowned for his captivating portrayals of multifaceted characters. Fresh off his success in the murder mystery Murder Mubarak as the perceptive cop Akash Dogra, Varma has garnered a reputation for excelling in the realm of crime thrillers.
However, in a recent interview, hosted by Netflix for the cast and crew of Murder Mubarak, Vijay revealed a surprising truth: his gravitation towards crime films isn't fueled by a fascination with violence. He asserted, "I wasn’t inclined towards being a spy, but I wanted to be a superhero when I was a child. I think it has something to do with solving crime. This theme has been my favourite one since childhood. I have often played the role of killer." This fascination with unravelling enigmas seems to have translated into his on-screen presence, where he's often seen playing morally ambiguous characters in projects like Darlings, Dahaad, and Kaalkoot.
When questioned about his apparent affinity for crime films, Varma's witty response left everyone in stitches. "I don't have a personal connection with crime," he joked. He further explained, "It is these writers and directors of the current generation who think only about murder and not beyond that. They are only thinking about murders and roles for us. I am a very peaceful person by nature. I believe in non-violence."
