Kabir Khan recalls how he responded to Katrina Kaif calling him ‘Sir’ on the sets of New York; he told her, “Yaar, your boyfriend is four years older than me”

Kabir Khan and Salman Khan have been friends for quite some time now and the filmmaker has collaborated with the Bollywood superstar for many of his projects including Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Tubelight. On the other hand, Khan also shares a deep connection with Katrina Kaif with whom he has worked with films like New York, Ek Tha Tiger, and Phantom. Recalling the time when he was shooting for New York with Katrina, he revealed who Kat would address him as ‘Sir’ and how he had once made a statement about her boyfriend aka Salman being four years older than him.

Recalling time when Katrina Kaif dated Salman Khan, Kabir Khan told Mashable India about how it was all new for the actress who had just entered the industry. In fact, considering that Khan was her senior, Katrina would not only treat him with respect but would even call him ‘Kabir Sir’. “For Katrina it was a life-changing experience because the entire film, the set-up everything was new to her. She used to keep calling me ‘Sir’ and I was like, ‘yaar, your boyfriend is four years older than me’. That’s how we (camaraderie) were like.” He went on to speak about what was special about New York and added, “It was my second film. I did not know anything much about what was commercial cinema, what wasn’t etc. It was a younger set-up with younger ADs. It was really an underdog film. I had narrated the story. Then we went to New York, stayed there for 100 days and shot the film. No one even knew that we were shooting.”

He also revealed that at that point of time, he addressed Katrina as Kareena because the name was just confusing. But later, he formed such a strong friendship with Kaif that when he was shooting Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Kareena Kapoor Khan, he used to address her as Katrina sometimes.

New York revolved around the aftermath of 9/11 attacks and attempted to portray the massive impact it had on Asians especially Asian-Muslims. Starring John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Irrfan Khan, and Neil Nitin Mukesh in lead roles, the film released to rave reviews in 2009 and was produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
