Sridevi Death Anniversary: 5 best Bollywood movies of the legendary actress

There are many stars, few superstars and even fewer legends. One person who was a legend in the true sense was Sridevi with a career spanning a mammoth 50 years with over 250 films in various languages. Along with south, she also had a significant contribution to Bollywood in a long list of movies.

On her 6th death anniversary, here’s looking back at her 5 best Bollywood movies (as per release dates).

Sadma (1983)

Sridevi delivered a poignant performance in Sadma as Nehalata, a young woman with retrograde amnesia. Her portrayal of Nehalata's innocence and vulnerability opposite Kamal Haasan received critical acclaim, establishing her as a powerhouse performer early in her career. The final scene of Sadma and the performance of Sridevi and Kamal Haasan in it still makes people emotional.

Mr. India (1987)

In this iconic sci-fi superhero film directed by Shekhar Kapur, Sridevi played Seema Sohni, a spirited journalist who becomes entangled in a battle against the villainous Mogambo. Her performance, particularly in the song ‘Hawa Hawai’, remains etched in the memories of audiences, despite a knockout performance by Anil Kapoor in the titular role of Mr India.

Chaalbaaz (1989)

Directed by Pankaj Parashar, Chaalbaaz featured Sridevi in a double role as twin sisters Anju and Manju. Her versatile performance, portraying the contrasting personalities of the sisters, showcased her impeccable comic timing and acting prowess. The film remains one of Sridevi's most iconic and beloved movies.

Lamhe (1991)

Directed by Yash Chopra, Lamhe showcased Sridevi's versatility as she portrayed dual roles—Pallavi and Pooja. Her portrayal of the modern and independent Pooja earned her widespread acclaim, and the film is celebrated for its unconventional storyline and captivating performances from Sridevi as well as Anil Kapoor.

English Vinglish (2012)

Sridevi made a remarkable comeback with Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish, portraying Shashi Godbole, a middle-class housewife who embarks on a journey of self-discovery by learning English. Her nuanced performance and the film’s poignant storyline earned critical acclaim, box office success and it resonated with audiences worldwide.
