Kangana Ranaut reveals why ‘nobody would want her as the Prime Minister’

Kangana Ranaut has always been vocal about her support for the ruling party of India as well as Hindutva on several platforms including her social media handles. The actress will soon be seen in the role of Congress Leader and former as well as the only female Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi in the upcoming film Emergency. Speaking of her own inclination towards politics and aspirations in the field, Kangana addressed the subject maintaining that no one would want her to take up the role of Prime Minister.

While attending a trailer launch in Hyderabad, Kangana Ranaut referred to her role as the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Emergency and added that after watching the movie, audiences would prefer that she wouldn’t assume the role of a PM. “I just did a film called Emergency. After watching that movie, nobody will want me as the Prime Minister,” the actress revealed to the audience during the event.

Interestingly, not too long ago, Kangana had maintained that one should not think of becoming a politician and that such thoughts are ‘vulgar’. She had clarified her statement adding that it should be the people around who should believe in you and your power to rule the country. In May 2023, the actress was quoted by ABP News saying, “If you say, ‘I want to be a politician’, it’s a vulgar thought. You shouldn’t be the one to say it yourself, the public should say this. Those who are in a position of power, those who control these things, they should say this. What I feel about this is irrelevant. It is up to the public to decide and those who hold the power to give me the opportunity. I will leave this decision to them.”

During the same interaction, the actress revealed that while she would prefer to be addressed as an artist, she also asserted that if need be and if she would get an opportunity to be selfless and serve the nation, she would always be ready to take up that role.

Emergency, also starring Anupam Kher, Mahima Choudhary, Shreyas Talpade, among others, is slated to release on June 14.
