Manoj Bajpayee on Killer Soup director Abhishek Choubey, “He is the best contemporary director of this country”

Killer Soup, which has so far not been banned for giving the paya soup a bad name, brings the killer combination of actor Manoj Bajpayee and Abhishek Chaubey together. This is their third collaboration together and Manoj can’t stop praising his director.

Said Manoj, “We’ve done Sonchiriya and the short film Ray together. I regard these as among my best work. Abhishek Choubey is the best contemporary director of this country. I feel Abhishek taps into those aspects of my personality which even I am not aware of. He just lets his actors deep-dive into their characters, not afraid of what they would come up with. The only other director who gives his actors so much space to innovate is Shekhar Kapoor. While doing Killer Soup, we knew we were doing something that has never been attempted before.”

When I shared Manoj’s opinion on Abhishek Chaubey with Chaubey, he responded with equal enthusiasm saying, “That’s a huge compliment. Manoj bhai has worked with the likes of Shyam Benegal, Shekhar Kapoor, Ram Gopal Verma, Anurag Kashyap and many more legends, so can’t be true. The key to our relationship is a personal ease and a similar worldview. We are at a time in our career that our ideas about films are totally aligned. I think he is one of the finest actors ever and it’s my good fortune to work with him.”
