Speaking of the film, prior to its release, Padmaavat faced accusations of historical inaccuracies and distortions, particularly related to the portrayal of Queen Padmini. Protests erupted, sets were vandalized, and threats were hurled towards the cast and crew. The film's release was delayed amid concerns over public safety, making it a tinderbox of cultural and political tensions.
The debate around Padmaavat transcended the realm of historical fidelity. It became a battleground for larger socio-political issues, including freedom of expression, artistic license, and the representation of Rajput identity.
However, once the film released, all tensions and controversies died down and it enjoyed a smooth and a blockbuster run in theatres. Padmaavat went onto earn a mammoth Rs. 302.15 crores in its lifetime business in India alone.
Coming to Bhansali’s professional front, he has a bunch of exciting projects in his kitty, including his OTT debut series Heeramandi. In addition to this, he recently announced his next film, titled Love And War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. The upcoming film is expected to be released during Christmas 2025.
