Mahesh Manjrekar reveals that he is the kind of father who would accept his kids homosexuality; says If my son tells me he is in a gay relationship I will accept it

Mahesh Manjrekar, who has been a part of the entertainment industry for years together, opened up about his upcoming series on Jio Cinema which delves into the subject of homosexuality. The Marathi web show titled Eka Kaalechi Mani is set against the backdrop of middle-class values and traditions, with a quirky twist being given to characters dealing with issues such as homosexuality. With many stars coming in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, Mahesh too vouched his support for the community and even went on to talk about how he would react as a father.

In a recent interview with ETimes, Mahesh Manjrekar discussed about the acceptance of homosexuality and also asserted that Marathi audiences are much more progressive than people assume. In the same interaction, the actor-filmmaker revealed about how non-acceptance from parents have resulted in children taking extreme steps like suicide. “There were times when people were not ready to accept these relationships, and so many suicide cases took place due to this issue. But today the acceptance levels are high. Today, if my son comes and tells me that he is in a gay relationship, I will accept it because that is his choice and his life. Let him live the way he wants to. Even if my daughter says so, I will accept the fact,"

Furthermore, talking about how progressive Marathi audiences have become in terms of accepting such content, Mahesh added, "Why do we underestimate the Marathi audience? They are intelligent, smart, well-read, and progressive enough to understand it. They know what is happening around them in society. I think it's foolish to say this. In fact, a lot more experiments have happened in Marathi films than anywhere else. So I think they are ready for it. I think we are running away from the truth. Thanks to social media and the internet, people are aware of how progressive everyone has been so far, and we should accept and respect every relationship."

Ek Kaleche Mani stars Prashant Damle in the lead along with Vandana Gupte, Vishaka Subedar, Sameer Chaugule, among others in pivotal roles and the show is currently streaming on Jio Cinema.
