EXCLUSIVE: EXCITED fans burst firecrackers at the special screening of Deewana at a drive-in cinema in Malegaon, held to celebrate 30 years of Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan completed 30 years in the industry yesterday, on June 25. His first film, Deewana, was released exactly three decades ago on this day, in 1992. As expected, there was a lot of jubilation on social media. The icing on the cake was when Yash Raj Films (YRF), in the morning, released the first look poster of Pathaan, which will be SRK’s first film in four years. In the evening, the excitement increased as Shah Rukh Khan had an interaction with fans on social media.
Interestingly, the celebrations happened even on the ground and not just online. A screening of Deewana was held at Enjoy, a Drive-in cinema at Malegaon, to commemorate this important occasion. Bollywood Hungama has exclusively accessed videos and pictures from this screening, and it seemed like it was truly memorable.
The screening was organized by the ‘SRK Royal’s FC’ group in Malegaon. They came wearing special T-shirts bearing the superstar’s face. They also cut a cake and when Shah Rukh Khan made an entry in the film with the song ‘Koi Na Koi Chahiye’, they burst firecrackers. Often, excited fans use fireworks in cinemas and it’s quite risky to do so as the venues are enclosed spaces. However, since Enjoy is an open-air drive-in cinema, bursting rockets and other crackers wasn’t a problem at all.
Tushar Tisage, owner of Enjoy Drive-in cinema told Bollywood Hungama, “The screening was held by the Shah Rukh Khan’s fan club in Malegaon. They were planning for it for a month as they were aware that Shah Rukh would complete 30 years on June 25. It was on Thursday, January 23, that they confirmed the booking of our theatre. The screening was held on Friday, June 24. Around 60-70 people were there and they had an absolute blast. Bahut dhamaal hua and it was quite fun. They also cut a cake.”
Interestingly, in Deewana, Shah Rukh Khan enters the narrative only in the second half. So did the fans see the film from the very start or did they skip the first half? To which, Tushar Tisage replied, “They saw the first 30 minutes of the film. Then they fast-forwarded and played it from SRK’s entry scene. From here on, they saw the film till the very end.”
