Trade feels that Tiger Shroff-starrer Heropanti 2 is also larger-than-life like the recent hits and has a good mass appeal
Tiger Shroff has been a darling of the masses and trade since his debut film, Heropanti (2014). With his unique style, action and dance, he stood out and made a place in the industry and in the hearts of the audiences. It was no wonder that his second film, Baaghi (2016), had a huge opening of Rs. 11.94 crore. Baaghi 2 (2018), meanwhile, opened at a mind-boggling Rs. 25.10 crore and collected Rs. 164.38 crore in its lifetime. As a result, the expectations are there from Heropanti 2, which releases on Friday April 29, that is, during the Eid week. And trade feels that the action entertainer, co-starring Tara Sutaria and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has a chance to succeed at the ticket window.
Big scale, action: Heropanti 2’s plus points
Post-pandemic, it has been noticed that big-scale action films like Sooryavanshi, Pushpa, RRR and KGF - Chapter 2 have worked big time. With Heropanti 2 also being a big-budget actioner, the trade experts feel that the film will have an advantage.
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh agreed and said, “Yes Heropanti 2 has an advantage because it has Tiger Shroff doing what he does best – a lot of action and dances. It also seems to have loads of glamour. I have also liked the second trailer. It looks like a masala film, which caters to a pan-India audience, not to the Bandra-Versova crowd.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan emphasized, “The success of the South films has made it clear that audience ka taste aaj kal kya hai. Audiences want larger-than-life films. They aspire to be the hero who beats up 20-25 baddies at once. Moreover, Tiger Shroff looks convincing in such roles. His films in the past have worked. Baaghi 2 opened at Rs. 25 crore, shocking everyone. War (2019), co-starring Hrithik Roshan meanwhile had the highest opening day, at Rs. 53.35 crore. Baaghi 3 (2020) sadly got affected due to the Covid-induced lockdown. Heropanti 2 is in the same zone as these films and he’s comfortable in such roles. He’s one of the best action heroes we have today.”
Akshaye Rathi, a film exhibitor, and distributor, stated, “Action is a very universal genre. If it’s done right, it appeals to every section of the social strata. We have seen that happen with Tiger Shroff’s recent film, War. Whether multiplexes or single screens or in urban or rural areas, audiences everywhere turned up to watch it. As long as you are giving enough engagement value in terms of drama and emotional quotient to back the action up and narrating it in an impactful manner, then it’s a genre that always works.”
Pan-India appeal
While several Bollywood films off late tend to appeal to the multiplex and urban audiences, Heropanti 2 however is aimed at the B and C centres. Akshaye Rathi remarks, “Heropanti 2’s best chance is in the B and C centres. Tiger Shroff is an absolute mass actor who has an appeal in non-metro regions. I hope that with Heropanti 2, he can consolidate his position as a mass star.”
Taran Adarsh observed, “A film that appeals in B and C centres is more important nowadays. We can’t really neglect a big part of the country. It’s time to think beyond a few handful of metros. That’s the reason wahan ke log South ki film dekhne chale jaate hai aur woh Bollywood ko thenga dikha dete hai.”
Atul Mohan added, “Yes, it has a chance in non-urban centres. Also, kids are his big fans, especially those in the 10-15 age group. Other actors don’t have this advantage.”
