"In 'Meri Jaan' song, Alia Bhatt wants to be embraced by me but she is afraid" - Shantanu Maheshwari on Gangubai Kathiawadi
As Shantanu Maheshwari prepares to make his silver screen debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, we're treated with a new song after the soulful 'Jab Saiyaan'. Titled 'Meri Jaan', the intoxicating song with a groovy beat is sung by Neeti Mohan and captures the backseat romance of Alia Bhatt as the titular Gangubai and her lover Shantanu. The brand new pair enthralls the viewers with their mercurial chemistry and a face-off of emotions.
'Meri Jaan' is wound in a danceable rhythm. Teasing us and each other, Alia and Shantanu are seen talking to each other in signs and hand gestures at the beginning of the song. The outset of the song strengthens the maxim that love makes words unnecessary and both actors do a phenomenal job speaking through their eyes. Carving out a stunning depiction of love, Alia and Shantanu emote pain, fear, suffocation, disappointment, and most of all yearning.
Happy that the song is out, Shantanu expresses, "'Meri Jaan' shows what a filmmaker like Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir can do to make the equation of the two characters come out so poetically. In the song, Alia wants to be embraced by me, but she is afraid. All she wants is to be loved and when she finally gets a gentle caress, you can see how fulfilled she feels. It is so much more than romance. It's the history of two people melting away at the moment they have together."
Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film is all set to release theatrically on the 25th February 2022.
