8 Years of Naam Shabana: Director Shivam hints at sequel; says, “I’ve asked Neeraj about a sequel or spin-off”
In Naam Shabana, much of the gripping narrative unfolds on crowded streets. Director Shivam Nair crafts scenes with an urgent, anguished energy, making us immediately sense the protagonist’s need to avenge both past and present wrongs. Taapsee Pannu plays this introverted yet determined character with a compelling mix of restraint and transparency. It is a remarkable performance, but then, this is a remarkable film. The two halves of the narrative almost feel like separate movies—equally compelling but constructed under different circumstances. The first half focuses on the heroine’s budding relationship with a persistent admirer (played by Taher Mithaiwala), only to shatter her hopes for love. The second half shifts gears into a gripping spy thriller, with Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran delivering a menacing turn as an international villain.
